It was developed by the Earth Federation to accommodate Amuro Ray’s increasing Newtype abilities, which required a more advanced machine capable of handling his reflexes and skills.
The Alex never reached Amuro Ray, but its advanced technology laid the groundwork for future mobile suits in the Universal Century. Elements of its design influenced later Newtype-use mobile suits, such as the RX-93 Nu Gundam, which Amuro would pilot during Char’s Counterattack.”
